While Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 absolutely has its own identity due to its webswinging, suit abilities, and other features, the influence of the Batman: Arkham series can be felt when it comes to combat and stealth. Considering that Rocksteady’s work with Batman led to some of the best superhero games ever made, taking inspiration from the Arkham franchise makes perfect sense. If fans had their way, though, the next Marvel’s Spider-Man game would pull even more from Batman: Arkham franchise.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Could Add Game Over Screens, Better Enemy Behavior, and Arkham Knight’s Side Missions
In the thread started by daredevilspiderman, fans were quick to share their requests for Batman: Arkham features. One comment that did particularly well came from big-boy-bailie905, with the Redditor getting over 1,400 upvotes and some awards for suggesting game over screens. In the Batman: Arkham series, these screens would player when gamers died during boss battles, with villains like Two Face and Penguin making comments as they looked down at a dying Batman. If these were added to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a villain like Kraven could show his arrogance when completing his hunt.
Another suggestion comes from AtTheLetOut, who points out how often the goons in the Arkham games would interact with each other during combat sections. They list some examples, like the thugs picking up their allies after they were knocked down or enemies holding their sides when injured. Additional dialogue when Batman lowered an enemy group’s numbers would also play. All of these things would be a fun way to give the basic enemies in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 more personality.
Reddit user willisbetter pushed for a side mission wheel like what is seen in Batman: Arkham Knight. More villains, boss battles, and side quest lines is a common request for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and a similar approach to Batman: Arkham Knight would be an ideal way to provide that. Considering that the only Marvel’s Spider-Man quest line with a boss fight focused on Tombstone, more mission chains like that would be an ideal way to improve upon the first game.
Another idea is for battle damaged suits in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, with Reddit user casperdacrook mentioning how this mechanic was used well in the Batman: Arkham franchise. Seeing Spidey’s suit take damage would be a nice way to make his foes seem more threatening, and it could provide players with some neat variants of the game’s suits. There are plenty of areas where Insomniac could show some wear and tear, too, from the eyes to the spider symbol.
One last suggestion that did well on the subreddit was already made in an old thread, and it comes from God_is_Carnage. The player suggests an option to talk with Spider-Man villains who have been arrested, a highlight of Batman: Arkham Knight that provided more insight into the titular hero and his rogues’ gallery. While most of Spidey’s interactions would surely be quippy and playful, it could be interesting to hear him converse with Doc Ock after making a visit to The Raft. These optional bits of dialogue would be a great way for Insomniac to inject more lore into its version of the Marvel universe, too. Any of these features would benefit Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, so hopefully Insomniac Games keeps a close eye on threads like this one.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in 2023 on PS5.
