The Battlefield 1 open beta will allow players to wreck havoc on the Sanai Desert map, which was initially teased a few weeks ago. Focusing primarily on an armored train in which players will fight for control of, the Sanai Desert map will also feature a number of other vehicles - such as planes and cars - for everyone to try out. Most intriguingly though, this sandy open beta map allows players to try out the game’s new horse combat mechanic, something that is new to the franchise.
As for what game modes are available, the open beta features Battlefield’s standard Conquest and Rush modes, both of which will support up to 64 players. EA haven’t revealed when the Battlefield 1 open beta will end, but there’s speculation that it will run for at least four days with a September 8, 2016 end date being thrown around.
With the Battlefield 1 open beta clocking in at 6.2 GB in size, gamers will have to clear up some room on their preferred platform before downloading it. PlayStation 4 users can download the beta regardless of whether they have PlayStation Plus, while Xbox One users will require an Xbox Live Gold membership. As for PC owners, players will only need to start the Origin client and then navigate to the Free Games section.
Given that the open beta is available two months before Battlefield 1’s scheduled release date, this should give DICE enough time to fine-tune the game and sort out any potential server issues before the game is launched. With fans responding positively to Battlefield 1’s World War I setting, DICE’s upcoming shooter currently enjoying quite a bit of hype as the release date inches ever closer. Hopefully the game will live up to all expectations, and will prove to be the franchise-saving title that it is shaping up to be.
Battlefield 1 is scheduled for release on October 21 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
