Update 1.02 for Battlefield 1 doesn’t include any new content, but it does include dozens of fixes for crashes, UI glitches, matchmaking errors, and platform-specific bugs. Odds are most players have never experienced any of the issues addressed in Update 1.02, but for those who did experience them will be elated to have the problems solved. Here are just a few of the more significant bugs that have been fixed:
Fixed an issue where players experienced getting stuck in the globe screen when cancelling matchmaking. Fixed issue where Class Rank was incorrect. Fixed an issue where players experienced wrong info in loading screen. PC: Fix for a graphical issue causing artifacts in shadows.
Larger issues surrounding balance and other gameplay-affecting changes will obviously take more time for EA DICE to address.
It’s worth repeating that EA DICE being able to get this update out within a week of launch is significant. Not only were the devs able to actually fix a significant number of bugs and errors, but they managed to organize their work and get it to all users across all platforms. Considering consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only push patches like this on a single day each week, getting together a week-1 update isn’t as simple as it may seem.
Of course, when your game’s ultimate success is heavily dependent on post-launch DLC sales like Battlefield 1’s then it’s no surprise that EA DICE is so effective at updates. Given the studio’s history with post-launch updates to games like Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline, the teams are likely made up entirely of post-launch update veterans. After all, they aren’t fixing the physics issues that are leading to nightmare fiery blimp tornadoes, because a smart studio knows to leave that kind of awesome content in-game.
Battlefield 1 is now available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Expect more patches as EA DICE can put them together leading up to the game’s first premium DLC, “They Shall Not Pass,” in March 2017.
