Battlefield 2042 players are pointing to a feature from Battlefield’s past as something that EA DICE should be considering bringing back for the new game. Most recently used in Battlefield 4, the spawn select camera provided players a first-person look at the action while still in the transition before respawning. That way, players can see what’s going on while they wait to respawn or plot out where it’s best to spawn next.

One Battlefield fan explains how they and their friends used to use the Battlefield spawn screen camera back when it was still available. If they died while pushing with a squad of friends, their friends would want to respawn with their ally. As such, their friend would tell them, “Hey, watch this from the spawn screen,” and would then charge toward the enemy with reckless abandon. The friend could watch the entire fiasco from their spawn screen as they waited to respawn.

Unfortunately, other users make an excellent point regarding why DICE is unlikely to bring back the camera, even if it’s popular. That’s because Battlefield no longer uses 2D maps for spawning; it’s a 3D camera hovering above the map. In other words, the game is already fully rendering Battlefield 2042 from the spawn screen. Adding a second camera, requiring players’ platforms to fully render a second camera perspective, would be extremely hardware-demanding and a technical mess to code around.

That brings up the subject every Battlefield 2042 player is likely already tired of hearing about, which is that Battlefield 2042 already has performance-related issues that need to be fixed. Introducing a feature that would likely compound Battlefield 2042’s problems isn’t particularly attractive at the moment.

In other words, the awesome Battlefield spawn screen camera is all but certain to not be coming back as part of Battlefield 2042. If players truly want the feature back, they’ll have to persuade DICE to evaluate its reintroduction in future Battlefield titles. For now, it may be best to just embrace those memories and then let them go.

Battlefield 2042 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
