While responding to a weekly Reddit AMA series for Battlefield V, level designer Matthias Wagner was asked about players having the ability to vote on which maps to play in-between rounds on public servers. Wagner responded saying the feature would not be available when the game first launches.

There are a few reasons as to why this feature may not be a part of the base game when it launches. A couple months ago, EA revealed there would be eight multiplayer maps available at launch. The lack of online content may be the reason for the team not adding a vote option, with hopes players will get the chance to actually play every map in the game rather than having the community find just a few of the maps they enjoy playing the most.

The exclusion of voting also removes the disadvantage for players who queue up to play and are dropped right in mid-match. Since joining a game lobby mid-match removes that player’s ability to vote on the map at all, it keeps them on an even playing field with the rest of the lobby, as it appears maps will be chosen at random for players.

Who knows if map voting will eventually be brought back in the coming months. EA has announced their first wave of free post-launch content, title Tides of War. Between early December up until March, Battlefield V will be receiving its remaining two single-player chapters, more multiplayer maps, and will conclude this first wave with its new battle royale mode, Firestorm.

When taking into account the amount of post-launch content versus what will be available at launch, Battlefield V looks to be a game which isn’t ready to be released yet, given its delay by a month from October to November. It’s certainly possible the voting feature isn’t available at launch because EA DICE doesn’t have the time to prioritize and add it into the game yet, so adding it later on during this first wave of free DLC shouldn’t be a surprise if it happened.

Battlefield V launches on November 20th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The Digital Deluxe Version will be available five days early on November 15th.
